Boxers Versus Briefs

1:51
"...in four years I will be Forty years old."

Today is the day a New Went Year has dawned- and boxer's versus briefs is no more (but I think boxers!!).

Happy Birthday Darling Went.HOW do I encapsulate in words the thoughts & feelings of this Special Day.?

I could write this blog full of romantic gush like...

"I love you"

OR

"I love having you in my life even if it is a peripheral, virtual experience - you are always there. You bring sunshine after my rain."

However that may be deemed by some to be too soppy - too "fanlustlike".

I could quote "Elizabeth"..

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.

I love thee to the level of everyday's
Most quiet need, by sun and candlelight.
I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;
I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.

I love thee with the passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints, I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life! and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.

E. B-Browning

But that is a little "too heavy" in the literal sense perhaps.

I could take a leaf from PG Woodehouse and suggest that the Went warmth I feel makes me think of how I feel when....

"..the cup of tea on arrival at an English country house is a thing which, as a rule, I particularly enjoy. I like the crackling logs, the shaded lights, the scent of buttered toast, the general atmosphere of leisured cosiness"

Or I could try to be funny(?) and suggest that...

" If I kiss him (on his birthday) will he stop talking"?

..along with..

I bet you can accept being forty with a casual shrug of the shouldersFollowed by Hysterical Screams and Uncontrollable Sobbing!!
and..
40 Today!!Keep smiling on your BirthdayIt makes everyone wonder what you're up to!Happy 40th Birthday

Maybe I just write a love poem in a similar style to "Platonic"  by Ella Wheeler Wilcox

Platonic
I knew it the first of the summer,
I knew it the same at the end,
That you and your love were plighted,
But couldn’t you be my friend?
Couldn’t we sit in the twilight,
Couldn’t we walk on the shore
With only a pleasant friendship
To bind us, and nothing more?

There was not a word of folly
Spoken between us two,
Though we lingered oft in the garden
Till the roses were wet with dew.
We touched on a thousand subjects—
The moon and the worlds above,—
And our talk was tinctured with science,
And everything else, save love.
A wholly Platonic friendship
You said I had proven to you
Could bind a man and a woman
The whole long season through,
With never a thought of flirting,
Though both were in their youth
What would you have said, my lady,
If you had known the truth!
What would you have done, I wonder,
Had I gone on my knees to you
And told you my passionate story,
There in the dusk and the dew?
My burning, burdensome story,
Hidden and hushed so long—
My story of hopeless loving—
Say, would you have thought it wrong?
But I fought with my heart and conquered,
I hid my wound from sight;
You were going away in the morning,
And I said a calm good-night.
But now when I sit in the twilight,
Or when I walk by the sea
That friendship, quite Platonic,
Comes surging over me.
And a passionate longing fills me
For the roses, the dusk, the dew;
For the beautiful summer vanished,
For the moonlight walks—and you.

I could write a thesis about "how many candles"?- but I want this blog by the end of the day - and a Thesis should take a reasonable length of time even if the candles continue to burn bright (so MANY!!!).

Maybe I should just use the "philosophy" that "less is more".So my message for this Wentlog June 2nd 2012 is..

To Went on your Special Day

"I wish you the happiest of days with all the luck, love & naughty bits that you deserve."

and I just want to add here..

Very grateful thanks to Went's Parents Earl & Joy because if it hadn't been for them...I would have nothing to write about.!!

Party Time!!!

  2. lovely. i really liked 'platonic'. i have had that experience in my past, and it was a beautiful, innocent thing. however, if it was with went..... well, there's no way i could do that for a whole summer. i am too weak in the knees....
